I live in a suburb of Salisbury known as Lower Bemerton which is on the western side of the city. I moved here from the St Paul's area during the beginning of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and have settled in nicely.
It's a lovely part of Salisbury although it did take me a little while to get used to the trains sounding their horns. They sound them for good reason due to the Gramshaw Road level crossing. It certainly made me jump when I first heard them.
Broken Bridges - Lower Bemerton
One of the things that attracted me to living in Lower Bemerton is a local country path called Broken Bridges. It runs from Lower Road, between Bridge Cottage and Bridge House (Grade 2 listed) and across the River Nadder and its tributaries.
It then continues fairly close to the side Churchfields Industrial Estate, across the river Avon and through to Middle Street in Harnham.
If you do decide to go for a walk along Broken Bridges, keep an eye out for the local wildlife. You might be lucky enough to see such as Herons, Egrets, Swans, Ducks, Blue Tits, Wrens and Canada Geese.
Useful Links.
The Bemerton Local History Society website contains a lot of very useful information about the area and should be your first port of call. It contains a very useful property index with historic details of local houses.

St Andrew's Church is located at the junction of Lower Road and Church Lane. It is a very small church and the final resting place of George Herbert.
